Watch Officers

Watch Officers are vital to club operation - the Club cannot be open and operating without a Watch Officer on duty! Volunteering as a Watch Officer is a great way to help the Club and meet other members.

Responsibilities

The main Watch Officer responsibilities include:

  • Opening the Club.
  • Supervising all on-land activities (including ferry and dock).
  • Ensuring the safety of members and guests.
  • Supervising the bartender, hired hospitality, and the Event Captain, or performing bartending, hospitality, and other duties when there is not another person to do so.
  • Enforcing all Club Policies and ABC Liquor License requirements.
  • Handling walk-in new member inquiries.
  • Closing and securing the Club.

Perks

There are perquisites for volunteering as a Watch Officer.

  • Members who are Watch Officers receive a $30 stipend toward monthly Club membership dues for each shift, up to 2 stipends per month (per membership).
  • Members who are Watch Officers can operate the Honor Bar, where an active Watch Officer may open the bar outside of normal Club hours.

Becoming a Watch Officer

To become a Watch Officer, a member must attend a series of in-person training sessions, where the member is trained in all aspects of Club operations so that he or she will be confident to "be the Captain of the ship!" To maintain active Watch Officer status, the member must volunteer for at least one shift each quarter.
