Women Sailing

Half Moon Bay Yacht Club invites women of all ages and sailing experience to join Women Sailing (WS). The goal of Women Sailing is to empower women and girls through sailing.

We meet weekly on Thursday evenings April through October at 5:30 to sail, then gather at the Club for refreshments and sometimes a light meal. Join us for a relaxed evening on the water, whether you are an experienced sailor or a new sailor looking to improve your sailing skills. We have boats with skippers available to mentor new sailors.

WS also participates in fundraising so that young girls can be introduced to sailing. Each year WS sends several of our adult members to Island Yacht Club’s two-day Women Sailing Seminar.

In 2018, twelve WS members took a week-long sailing class in the San Juan Islands. They completed ASA 101, 103 and 104 certificates.

WS sponsors the Take the Tiller Women’s Racing Clinic and Take the Tiller Regatta in July. This regatta is open to all women sailors.

Many members of WS are active sponsors of our Cal 20 fleet, working to keep our boats in shape for the sailing season. No experience is required, just a willingness to learn.
