Join the Half Moon Bay Yacht Club

The Half Moon Bay Yacht Club prides itself in being a relaxed, informal, and friendly environment. Experienced sailors and those new to the sport can mingle and enjoy all that the Coastside has to offer. Those who enjoy social activities can participate in a wide offering of Club events and activities throughout the year. We are a volunteer-based organization that requires the active involvement of all our members in order to keep our membership dues low, offer reasonably priced food and drink, and support a fleet of Club-owned boats. Volunteers enjoy the satisfaction of participating in our “community of friends.”

Whether you are an expert sailor or a beginner, a cruiser or a racer, there are sailing activities for everyone. The calendar includes a variety of events such as regattas, fun race days, adult classes, women sailing days, youth sailing camp, and much more! On non-windy days members can also enjoy the tranquil harbor on a Club-owned kayak or stand-up paddleboard. The Club is truly unique in that it maintains a fleet of 20 ft keelboats, 15 ft racing dinghies, smaller dinghies, and power skiffs for members to use – at no extra cost over the regular membership dues. If you have your own small boat or kayak, there is storage for rent in the boatyard (based on availability).

And of course, let’s not forget the shore side of things. There are many events going on at the Club, catering for all members – happy hours, themed dinner nights, movie nights, BBQs, potlucks...the list is endless! Check out the calendar to see our events.  To get more details on current events, see our monthly newsletter Tell Tales. Members are also able to rent Club facilities for private use at very reasonable rates.

As a member of HMBYC you will also enjoy reciprocal privileges at many yacht clubs in the Bay Area and worldwide.

HMBYC offers a beautiful venue to enjoy with family and friends both on and off the water. What better reason do you need to become a member of our community of friends?

Membership Types and Fees

Two types of membership are available to those wishing to join the Half Moon Bay Yacht Club.

Regular Membership

Regular Membership may be held by adults aged 18 or over, and includes the member’s spouse/partner, if any, as well as their children under 26 years of age still living at home. Members receive full use of Club facilities, both on and off the water. When voting on Club matters, there is one vote per family membership.  Dues of $75 are paid monthly with autopay. New members will be assisted in setting up autopay for dues as part of their application for membership.

Initiation fee: $800 — Monthly dues: $75 (with autopay)

Youth Membership

Youth Membership may be held by persons aged 8 to 18 whose parents/family are not members and who wish to participate in a HMBYC-sanctioned youth program . Youth Members have no voting rights, but once checked out, may use Club vessels and other facilities during the Club's operating hours. A youth membership does not mean the youth may be dropped off at the Club to use Club vessels they are checked out on during non-operating hours. Youth memberships do not allow guests to accompany them and use Club vessels. Youth memberships expire at the end of each calendar year but may be renewed annually. The Youth membership is used for member discount for youth sailing camps, and may also be applied to the initiation fee for a Regular Membership, if the youth member's family wishes to join the Club.

Initiation fee: $150 — monthly dues: none
