Women Sailing

HMBYC invites women of all ages and sailing experience to join Women Sailing. We meet the second and fourth Thursdays of April through October at 5:30, to sail and then convene in the clubhouse for a drink or a casual dinner. These sailing evenings are great for learning to sail or practicing your skills. In November we meet on the third Thursday for a knot tying seminar.

During the winter months, when the Cal-20’s have unfortunately retreated into the boatyard, we sponsor sailing seminars that are open to all members of the club. Our most recent seminars in early 2017 included a Baja HaHa recap from several women who participated as well as an introduction to celestial navigation taught by our resident professor of astrophysics.

The goal of Women Sailing is to empower women and girls through sailing. To that end, we work hard at fundraising so that we can offer scholarships for girls to attend the summer youth sailing program. We have also sent several of our own members to Island Yacht Club’s Women Sailing seminar and have contributed to providing uniforms and training for some of the youth camp teaching staff.

We are proud to present Take The Tiller 2017 on Saturday, June 3, 2017. This is an all-day sailing workshop for women, designed to build confidence and command at the helm. It’s intended for women with basic sailing skills. For further information, see the Take The Tiller page to the left.
