Women Sailing

HMBYC invites women of all ages and sailing experience to join Women Sailing. We meet the second Tuesday and fourth Thursday of the month April through October at 5:30, to sail and then convene in the clubhouse for a drink or a casual dinner. These sailing evenings are great for learning to sail or practicing your skills. In November we meet on the third Thursday for a knot tying seminar.

During the winter months, when the Cal-20’s have unfortunately retreated into the boatyard, we sponsor sailing seminars that are open to all members of the club. Our 2019 seminars include Sailing on San Francisco Bay with Lauren Eisese on Thursday 1/24/1, a report from Carliane Johnson on her single handed Transpac race to Hawaii on Thursday 2/28/19, and working weather into your sail plan with Karen Allanson on Thursday 3/28/19.

The goal of Women Sailing is to empower women and girls through sailing. To that end, we work hard at fundraising so that we can introduce young girls to sailing.  We also send several of our adult members to Island Yacht Club’s two day Women Sailing seminar each year and have contributed to providing uniforms and training for some of the youth camp teaching staff. Last year 12 women from the club took a weeklong bareboat sailing class in the San Juan Islands earing ASA 101, 103 and 104 certificates.

We are planning our first ever Take The Tiller Women’s Racing Clinic on June 9, 2019. We will have our second annual Take The Tiller Women’s Regatta on Saturday, July 27, 2019. We will sail our fleet of Cal 20’s and see if we can muster a fleet of C15s.

We will once again offer our Claire Borkert Girls’ Sailing Scholarship this year. This award is not based on financial need but rather on a girl’s enthusiasm for learning to sail. Click here for the application which is due by June 3, 2019
