Cal 20 Classes
The two day course is divided into a morning shore based session and an afternoon on-the-water session aboard the club fleet of Cal 20′s. These keelboats are comfortable, safe, perfect for learning to sail and most important of all, dry! 
No previous sailing experience necessary for the introductory course. Participants who want to get checked out to use the club boats must study the course book before hand and be prepared to take a test on day two.
Topics covered in two-day introduction course include:
- Basic Seamanship skills – steering, balance and sail trim
- parts of a boat
- wind awareness
- points of sail
- rigging and de-rigging a boat
- sailing upwind
- sailing downwind
- launching and docking
- knots and terminology
- safety and right of way rules
*Reading of the free course book – “Start Sailing Right” is highly recommended.
Topics covered in two-day Intermediate/Advanced course:
-Advanced steering/balance/ sail trim/ theory
-Mob techniques
-Heaving to
-Docking
-Racing tactics
-Chart reading
-Safety/logistics
Course Fee – $75 for members
Course times – 8:30am – 5:30pm Saturday and Sunday
Dress Code – Non-slip, non-marking, closed toe, waterproof shoes, layered clothing, hat, sunscreen, gloves. The club will provide a PFD (Personal Flotation Device)
