Sailing

HMBYC is first and foremost a sailing organization.

That’s right…we are not “a bar that happens to own a sailboat” but a club devoted to the fun that comes from being out on the water!

While many HMBYC members do own boats of their own, it is not a prerequisite for joining the Club or enjoying sailing. The club owns a variety of sailboats, including both dinghies (Opti’s, Lasers, FJ’s, and C15’s) and a fleet of Cal-20’s. The Cal-20 is a seaworthy, safe and easily managed keelboat, ideal for our harbor.

Once you are checked out as a skipper in a particular class, that fleet is available at your convenience. There is no additional cost to use the club boats…in fact, having our own club fleet sets us apart from many other yacht clubs. If you decide that a beautiful summer afternoon is better spent on the water than in your office, simply head over to the club, check out a boat, rig her sails, and off you go!

Not a sailor yet? No problem—sign up for one of our adult sailing classes (check out the class calendar), come out for some of our many sailing events during the season to further build your skills, and then get checked out by one of our instructor skippers. Click here for more information about the checkout process.

For more information about general HMBYC sailing opportunities, feel free to contact the Rear Commodore.

HMBYC is also proud to support a very active Women Sailing community, complete with twice-monthly on-the-water events. Browse the WS page for more details.

What about youth sailors? We also have an active youth sailing program, using our Opti’s, Lasers, and FJ’s. We offer sailing camp every spring during the local school district’s spring break week as well as several weeks every summer. All the details are on our Youth Sailing page.
